Maple Syrup Urine Disease

Maple Syrup Urine Disease

Maple Syrup Urine Disease, also called MSUD, is a rare genetic disorder that prevents the body from breaking down three amino acids – leucine, isoleucine and valine – potentially leading to a harmful buildup of these substances in a person’s blood. While this lifelong condition has no cure, recognizing the condition and starting treatment early can prevent serious health issues including progressive brain damage leading to death.
